Cosmetic Breast Surgery: Can Undergoing Breast Surgery affect Breastfeeding Later?

One of the most pertinent questions virtually every breast augmentation surgery Thailand candidate often poses is whether the procedure can affect breastfeeding. An even bigger majority do not know if they would breastfeed at all.

Certainly, all the questions on cosmetic breast surgery deserve clear and coherent answers. They have to be answered well, with utmost honesty and rightly so by seasoned surgeons who perform the procedure.

What about the silicone used in breast implants?

You are probably wondering if you will be able to breastfeed without any difficulty after having had breast implants. You could also be asking whether it would feel okay to breastfeed painlessly after undergoing a cosmetic breast or nipple surgery.

Well, the good news is that many of those who’ve had it do breastfeed their little one normally. That’s because, going under the knife, if done well, will have absolutely no effect on how the ducts or milk production tissues work.

But that doesn’t mean there is totally nothing to worry about because there is.

The real answer pretty much depends upon the nature of surgery done, how it takes place, and the reason for going for it. Risks faced as a result of augmentations, mastectomies, reductions, lumpectomies, and biopsies vary.

All these procedures can be performed on women of childbearing age, and they all will breastfeed without any glitch. Basically, if it is a regular breast augmentation surgery involving an inframammary fold and the implant being behind the pectoral muscle, then the risk is almost nonexistent.

On the reason for having breast surgery, this too can affect the normal ability to breastfeed. If the breasts are the regular, fairly symmetrical-shaped type and the patient wants them boosted a bit, then there could be a problem once breastfeeding starts. Flat or tubular-shaped ones, however, pose no risk because, after all, such types of breasts often have limited glandular tissue responsible for milk production.

The likelihood gets a lot glimmer for someone getting the implants for reconstruction, especially after undergoing a mastectomy. It is also the same case for a cosmetic breast reduction surgery. However, there’s little to worry since every potential candidate is brief on all possible consequences beforehand.

To wrap this up, whether a breast surgery can affect a person’s ability to breastfeed depends on a couple of factors. But generally speaking, it really doesn’t.
